Cedar Hill Kiosk Sign Program

December 10, 2007

The city’s Code Enforcement Committee has worked to address the proliferation of signs throughout the city. Earlier this year, the committee worked with the City Council to enforce the City’s regulations related to signs in the city’s right-of-ways. We are hoping the kiosks will reduce the number of homebuilder signs that line are streets:

  • The purpose of this is to establish consistent regulation of installation, use, and maintenance of directional signs.  This amendment will also provide a uniform, coordinated method of providing homebuilders and developers a means of utilizing directional signs, while minimizing negative impacts on the City and its residents.
  • A kiosk sign is “a free-standing structure located in public right-of-way that features the City of Cedar Hill identification panel at the top of each structure and displays directional information to homebuilders, residential developments, and municipal or community events or facilities.”

Is that what we see as we’re coming up the hill on New Clark Rd.? Seems like it will either go unnoticed or be a distraction, but I could be wrong. (Crossing New Clark on Straus is sometimes like a game of chicken, so people slowing down to read signs might prove to be a good thing!)

I’m still getting used to the new intersection on 1382 at Pleasant Run and not really looking forward to all the traffic from the new shopping center opening in March. I know, I sound like an old lady who’s afraid of change, but Midlothian and Waxahachie are starting to sound appealing . . . .
